Defending champions Maratha Arabians mopped the floor with the Northern Warriors in their first match of the Abu Dhabi T10 League at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. The Arabians beat the Warriors by five wickets.

Coming to the field to bat first, the Warriors set up an impressive target of 127 at a loss of 2 wickets. Lendl Simmons registered his first fifty in this season. Simmons hit an unbeaten 54 runs off 31 balls, while opener Brandon King hit 29 runs, the second-highest run for the Warriors.

During the Arabians innings, it appeared that the bowlers outplayed the batsmen of the opponents. The Arabians lost wickets in quick succession.

Warriors bowler Fabian Allen picked up two wickets to put his side in a commanding position. But then came the guardian angel of the Arabians to turn the tables against the Warriors.

Abdul Shakoor also registered his first half-century of the tournament. He smashed a brilliant 73 runs off 28 runs, leading the Arabians to a thumping victory.

Successfully chasing the target, the Arabians scored 131 runs losing five wickets, clinching the victory. Shakoor was named as the Man of the Match.

Maratha Arabians will play their next match on January 29 against Delhi Bulls. On the other hand, the Northern Warriors will play their second match on January 30 against the Delhi Bulls.
