Adelaide Strikers have roped in South African star Laura Wolvaardt to fill in the shoes of Sophie Devine for the upcoming season of WBBL on Thursday.

Wolvaardt is considered one of the budding stars in the T20 format for South Africa. She only played two matches for her side in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year and smashed 53 runs and 41 runs against Pakistan and Australia respectively.

The 21-year-old was also a part of the WBBL when she played for the Brisbane Heat but failed to leave any impact. She managed a meagre 99 runs in 15 innings in her stint with the team. She has been a better player in the 50-over format but her recent performances in the shortest format of the game have improved significantly.

“We’re extremely pleased to have secured the signing of Laura who we think is an exceptional young talent and will fit into our group nicely,” head coach Luke Williams said.

“We were very impressed by her standout performances on the biggest stage of them all, the T20 World Cup, and we’re excited for what she will bring to the Strikers batting order, and her versatility in that order,” she added.

As of now Cricket Australia is hoping that by the time the new season of the WBBL begins, the overseas players will be able to travel despite the restrictions imposed by the governments of all the countries.
