West Indies bowler Anisa Mohammad has opted out of the upcoming tour of West Indies women to England next month. Anisa is the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket and her departure comes as a huge setback for West Indies.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced the 18-women squad for the upcoming tour of England starting in September. West Indies women’s squad will be led by Stafanie Taylor for the five-match series under the bio-secure bubble.

The board respected Anisa’s decision of opting out as they said: “All players were given the option to decline selection for any Covid-19 related concern. Anisa Mohammed was the only potential selectee who declined the invitation to travel to England. CWI fully respects her decision to choose to do so.”

Earlier, when the men’s team was set to tour England, Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul had also opted out of the series.

The series between England women and West Indies women’s team will also mark the comeback of the women’s cricket after six months. The last time women’s cricket took place was in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup February-March.

The finals dates have not been finalised for the series but the matches could take place between September 21-30 tentatively.

West Indies women’s squad Stafanie Taylor (capt), Aaliyah Alleyne, Shemaine Campbelle, Britney Cooper, Shamilia Connell, Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Cherry Ann Fraser, Shabika Gajnabi, Sheneta Grimmond, Chinelle Henry, Lee-Ann Kirby, Hayley Matthews, Natasha McLean, Chedean Nation, Karishma Ramharack, Kaysia Schultz, Shakera Selman
