AS-W vs BH-W: Adelaide Strikers will be taking on Brisbane Heat in the 45th match of the Women’s Big Bash League on Monday at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide. The Strikers’ last match was washed out due to rain and it means they continue to sit at the number 5 position with 13 points. Brisbane Heat, on the other hand, is at second with 7 wins in 11 matches.
The Strikers have 6 wins and one more win can take them straight to number two. There is no denying that it will be a crucial match for both teams and one can expect a cracker of a contest on Monday.
Prior to the abandoned game, the Strikers played against Hobart Hurricanes and restricted them to 152 runs in the first innings. Heather Graham notched a half-century in just 34 balls, while Villani made 47 off 42 deliveries.
Amanda Wellington was the pick of the bowlers for the Strikers as she claimed 2 wickets for 31 runs in 4 overs. In reply, the Strikers could only manage 129 runs, thereby falling 23 runs short of the target. Laura Wolvaaradt scored 45 off 38 but the other batters struggled to hit the straps. Heading into the next game, the batters should look to contribute significantly to the team’s cause.
Facing them are Brisbane Heat, who are comfortably positioned at number two, right now. However, they too are coming off a defeat. Against Hobart Hurricanes, all Brisbane Heat managed was 100 runs on the board. Grace Harris (41 off 30) and Laura Harris (32 off 20) made handy contributions but none of the batters could go on to produce a big knock. In reply, the Hurricanes chased down the score in 12.3 overs.
The batting unit of both Strikers and Heat didn’t play well in their last game. It will be interesting to see how they fare this time around.
