Ashes 2021-2022, Day 2: Australia has put England in deep trouble as they scored a mammoth 473-run total before declaring their innings on the second day of the second Test at Adelaide Oval on Friday. Mitchell Starc accounted for the wicket of Rory Burns before Michael Nesser got a wicket off his second ball in Test Cricket. He had Haseen Hameed caught at mid-on. Umpires were forced to call stumps early after a massive flash of lighting took place. England is currently tottering at 17 for 2 at the end of the second day’s play.

Earlier, Marnus Labuschagne notched his 6th century in just the 20th Test. Also, he became the fifth-fastest batsman to score 2000 runs in Test Cricket. He, however, got out in the 98th over after scoring 103 off 305 balls. Steve Smith, however, kept scoring runs and took Australia’s innings further. Travis Head supported him but not for too long. He got bowled for 18 off 36 after playing over the top of a ball bowled from skipper Joe Root. Cameron Green soon followed him for 2 as he was bowled by Ben Stokes.

Alex Carey and Steve Smith then formed another vital partnership to deny England pick the last five wickets quickly. The duo played some pleasant shots and added a 91-run partnership for the 6th wicket before Anderson had Smith leg-before for a well-made 93 off 201 balls. Smith missed out another century for just 9 runs. Carey scored 51 off 107 deliveries before getting out off James Anderson in the 141st over.

This wasn’t it for England, however. The frustrations piled up as Mitchell Starc and Michael Nesser added a quick half-century partnership for the eighth wicket to take the total close to the 450-run mark. Australia eventually declared the innings at 473 for 9 in 150.4 overs. England to have bat their skin out if they want to give themselves any chance in the Test match.
