Asia Cup 2022: Afghanistan booked a place in the top four after registering their second consecutive win in the Asia Cup 2022 on Tuesday. M Nabi and Co. dished out an all-round performance to beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the tournament’s third match.

Spinner Mujeeb Ur-Rahman ran through Bangladesh’s top-order and left them reeling at 24 for 3 in the first innings. Skipper, Shakib Al Hasan got out cheaply as Bangladesh got off to the worst possible start.

Mahmudullah (25) and Afif Hussain (12) tried to steady the ship but runs were hard to come by. Rashid Khan spun a web around them after the power play and took the wickets of both of them to leave them reeling at 89 for 6.

At one stage, it looked like Bangladesh will be folded for under 100. However, Mosaddek Hossain’s unbeaten 48-run knock of 31 helped the team reach 127 runs at the end of the first innings.

Afghanistan wins by 7 wickets

Afghanistan made a cautious start to the chase. But they couldn’t be there for too long as Shakib Al Hasan had accounted for the wicket Gurbaz. Then, Hossain had Zazai in the 10th over, while Nabi got out in the 13th to leave the game evenly poised. Afghanistan had lost three wickets for 62 runs with a mountain to climb.

Najibullah Zadran then stitched hands with Ibrahim Zadran and guided the team home with an unbeaten partnership. While Ibrahim played an anchor innings for his 42 off 41, Najibullah Zadran smashed the killer punches with an unbeaten knock of 43 runs in 17 balls. Thanks to that partnership, Afghanistan comfortably chased down the score in 18.3 overs.
