The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has given Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) an extension to finalize their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. The deadline for finalizing the squad was set for August 8, however, the board had requested for an extension in the deadline for naming their squad.
BCB had postponed its process of finalizing the squad due to several instances of injury in the squad and are awaiting for the medical reports before naming their final squad for the Asia Cup.
“The long injury list have put us on the backfoot and so we requested the ACC to give some more time to finalize our squad and they have accepted it,” BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus told Cricbuzz on Saturday.
“We are waiting for the medical report and later we will finalize the squad. We will have to submit the squad before August 11,” Jalal added.
Litton Das and Nurul Hasan have been ruled out of the upcoming Zimbabwe trip due to injury, and their participation in the Asia Cup seems dubious unless they heal adequately before the deadline.
Nurul is presently in Singapore to have his condition of his injured finger evaluated. On the hand, Litton is expected to be sidelined for four weeks due to a hamstring injury making his chances of making it to the Asia Cup squad slim.
Mustafizur Rahman (ankle), Mushfiqur Rahim (thumb), and Shoriful Islam (knee) are the other players on the injured list. Apart from them, Yasir Ali and Mohammad Saifuddin, who were ruled out of the Zimbabwe trip, will have to undergo a fitness test to be considered for selection.
Aside from injury issues, Bangladesh must also select their T20I captain for the Asia Cup and the forthcoming T20 World Cup. Shakib al Hasan was the front-runner, but he has to have his current sponsorship contract with Betwinner News approved.
