AUS vs ENG ODI: Australia has made a winning start to the three-match ODI series against England as they won the first ODI by 6 wickets on Thursday and took a 1 -0 lead.
Chasing a 288-run total, David Warner and Travis Head gave the team an outstanding start as the duo added 147 runs for the opening wicket. England failed to pick wickets early on a good batting surface and it cost them the match, eventually.
Head got after scoring 69 runs in 57 balls but Warner kept going and stitched another vital 53-run partnership for the second wicket. The southpaw eventually got out just when Australia reached the 200 mark but had done his job by then.
Warner, yet again, played a stellar knock of 86 runs in 84 balls, including 10 fours and 1 six. The likes of Labuschagne (4) and Alex Carey (21) also got out in quick time but Steve Smith held fort at one end and, eventually, guided the team home in 46.5 overs.
The former Australian skipper returned to form with a stellar knock of 80 runs in 78 deliveries, including 9 fours and 1 six. Earlier, England managed to score 287 runs in the first innings, thanks to a sensational ton from Dawid Malan.
England got out to a really poor start as the likes of Roy (6), Salt (14), and Vince (5) all got out cheaply to leave the team in trouble at 31 for 3. Sam Billings (17) and Jos Buttler (29) provided Malan with some support they couldn’t stay for too long either.
England had lost half of their side for just 118 runs on the board. Malan then accelerated and, singlehandedly, took England to a competitive score on the board. He went on to play a sensational knock of 134 runs in 128 balls but it didn’t prove enough in the end.
