AUS vs SA: Ace South African batsman Theunis de Bruyn is set to miss the third and final test against Australia that is scheduled to start on 4th January at the Sydney Cricket Ground. De Bruyn is going to travel back to his hometown ahead of the birth of his first child.
South Africa suffered a humiliating defeat against Australia in the second test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and have already lost the series by 0-2. The third test will be a prestige issue for the Proteas where they will aim to seize the game to regain their lost honor.
Theunis de Bruyn was recalled in the South African squad ahead of the Boxing Day Test at MCG as a replacement of injured Rassie Van der Dussen. Given a sizzling opportunity to feature in XI, Bruyn failed to capitalize on his innings and could only score a meager score of 12 and 28.
Following a strong batting order debacle, South Africa was crushed by an innings and 182 runs to suffer another series defeat.
Rassie Van der Dussen to likely get a place in ll
As Theunis de Bruyn will miss the third test, South Africa will definitely have to make a change for the third test. It is likely that the Proteas will pitch in out of form batsman Rassie Van der Dussen or give an opportunity to reserve wicket keeper Heinrich Klaasen.
The conditions in Sydney will likely be different than Gabba and Melbourne as the pitch will be dusty and bring spin in play. While Australia have already brought in Ashton Agar in place of Mitchell Starc, South Africa will also aim to bring in off-spinner Simon Harmer for the Sydney Test. Harmer will replace Nortje or Ngidi as they have been disappointing throughout the series.
Bowling has not been an issue for South Africans as they are consistently struggling with the bat. Kyle Verreynne is the leading run scorer with only 149 runs in his kitty. Bavuma, Elgar and Markram will have to shoulder responsibilities and aim a thrilling rescue win in the final test at Sydney.
