Australia win 3rd T20I against England by 5 wickets, conclude series to 1-2

Australia finally registered its first victory on the England soil as they defeated them by five wickets in the third and final T20I match on Tuesday.

After winning the toss, the visitors decided to bowl first as they put England to bat first. Tom Banton and Jonny Bairstow gave opened the batting for England but Banton fell cheaply on just 2 runs. On the other hand, Bairstow became the top-scoring player in England’s innings by scoring 55 runs off 44 balls.

Since England had already won the series, Eoin Morgan had been rested while Moeen Ali led the side in his absence.

From Australia’s side, Adam Zampa took 2 wickets as he removed Dawid Malan (21 runs) and Sam Billings (4 runs). The visitors looked good with the ball and this time they managed to restrict to England on 145 runs.

Australia rested David Warner for the game and included Matthew Wade as his replacement. Wade and skipper Aaron Finch opened the innings for visitors for chasing the target of 146 runs.

Finch scored 39 runs including four boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 150.00. He stitched a 39-run partnership with Marcus Stoinis (26 runs) and took the score to 70 runs for the third wicket.

Only Adil Rashid proved to be effective among England’s bowlers and picked three wickets by conceding just 21 runs. While Mark Wood and Tom Curran finished with a wicket apiece.

Mitchell Marsh (39 runs) and Ashton Agar (16 runs) hit the winning runs for the visitors as they chased the target with just three balls remaining,

Australia finished the three-match T20I series by 1-2 and England’s golden run continued at home after their return to international cricket. But after this win, Australia climbed to the top spot in the latest ICC T20 rankings with 275 points.
