The upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League 2022 will begin from January 21 to February 18, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Wednesday. The players’ draft of the T20 tournament will take place on December 27 (Monday) in Dhaka. BCB has mandated each team to pick at least three foreign players and ten local players during the BPL 2022 players’ draft.
ESPNCricInfo reported that the BPL 2022 players’ draft could fetch the overseas players can earn between US$ 20,000 and 75,000, while the local players will earn between BDT five lakh (approx. US$ 5,555) and 70 lakh (approx. US$ 77,700).
BCB had earlier confirmed that a total of six teams have registered for the tournament: Barishal (Fortune Shoes Limited), Chattogram (Delta Sports Limited-Akhtar Group), Cumilla (Comilla Legends Limited), Dhaka (Rupa Fabrics Ltd & Marn Steel Ltd (Consortium), Khulna (Mind Tree Ltd), Sylhet (Pragoti Green Auto Rice Mills Ltd).
The board has chosen three venues i.e., Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet for hosting the tournament comprising of a total of 36 games. The tournament is structured in a double round-robin league format, wherein every team gets to face each other twice.
BPL 2022 will begin three days after the Bangladesh team’s arrival from the NZ tour (on January 15), allowing those players a few days to join their respective franchises.
“There was a bit of uncertainty regarding the BPL,” Ismail Haider Mallick, BPL governing council chairman, said.
“We had to consider whether the Bangladesh team can finally play in New Zealand due to the Covid situation. We were prepared to hold the BPL. Six teams have registered with us. We have a few conditions for them – they have to guarantee the participation money. They have to make this payment before the tournament starts.” he added.
