The eighth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League has been cancelled, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed.
The apex body took the decision since the country is still fighting the coronavirus pandemic and come out of it. BCB chairman Nazmul Hassan confirmed that during the launch event of the three-team ODI tournament starting this month.
“BPL is not happening this year. Let’s see it in next year. We do not want to miss any game but everything will depend on the situation and circumstances” Nazmul Hassan said.
Currently the board is focusing on bringing back cricket in the country after a hiatus of over six months due to the COVID-19.
The Bangladesh cricket team was supposed to tour Sri Lanka for the Test series in October, unfortunately the series was postponed indefinitely.
Nazmul Hassan said that board does not have enough resources and arrangements to accommodate the foreign players this year.
“Because whenever there is talk of BPL, there must be foreign cricketers. At the same time there is the matter of production. Now if we can do those in Bangladesh then we have no objection. But it is a little bigger arrangement because of the number of players there and the team management are much higher. I don’t know if we are able to handle that or not,” he said.
