Brisbane Heat on Tuesday confirmed signing England all-rounder Lewis Gregory for the 10th season of the Big Bash League. Gregory also joins his Somerset teammate Tom Banton who already plays for the side in the T20 mega tournament.

The 28-year-old last played during the T20I series against Pakistan in August during England’s home season. Besides, he has also pocketed experience of playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL)

“He was quite sought after so we’re very pleased he is coming to us” Heat coach Darren Lehmann said.

“He has built a very respectable reputation as a finisher with the bat for Somerset in the Vitality Blast T20 competition, and he is skilful with the ball as well as having good pace,” he added.

England is slated to tour South Africa at the end of November for the white-ball series comprising of three T20Is and as many ODIs.

Only if Gregory is not picked in any of the squad would pave his path to play in the 10th edition of the Big Bash League.

“I’ve enjoyed the challenge of adapting to conditions when I played in the BPL and PSL and got some good insights into Australian conditions during the Lions tour so I’m certainly excited to be heading to the Heat,” Gregory said.

This year BBL will feature a pool of England cricketers comprising of Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Tom Curran, James Vince and Jonny Bairstow.

The 10th edition of the BBL is scheduled to begin from December 10 tentatively. Cricket Australia (CA) is yet to release the complete schedule of the tournament in the coming days.
