South African spinner Imran Tahir who plays for Melbourne Renegades has pulled out of the ongoing Big Bash League. The leg-spinner has cited personal reasons behind withdrawing from the tournament for the rest of the season.

His arrival in the Big Bash League was also delayed due to the mandatory 14-day quarantine imposed by the Australian government. Renegades’ head coach Michael Klinger said that Tahir’s withdrawal comes as a huge blow for the side.

“Unfortunately, Imran is not coming for personal reasons,” Klinger noted.

“He’s a great player so it is a loss. But at the same time we’ve seen Noor Ahmad a couple of games ago, a bowler who people haven’t seen that much, it might actually work in our favour. He’ll now be able to play a fair chunk of that back end of the season, with Imad Wasim. Nabi has to go home for international duty. It is a loss but at the same time what a huge opportunity for young Noor to come in and have a huge impact on the BBL.” he added.

Melbourne Renegades are one of the worst-performing teams in the ongoing BBL 2020-21 and managed just a single win so far. The only win came against the Sydney Thunder by 12 runs decided over the Duckworth Lewis method.

Their next fixture is against the Sydney Sixers at the Carrara Oval in Queensland on December 29.
