Melbourne Stars on Wednesday confirmed of signing the Afghanistan’s spinner Zahir Khan ahead of the 10th edition of BBL. The left-arm spinner had previously played for Brisbane Heat for three matches last season before joining Stars.

Zahir will be the third overseas signing of the Stars this season after Haris Rauf pulled out of the tournament due to national obligation.

The 21-year-old is expected to play for the Stars the entire season but that is still doubtful considering Afghanistan’s three-match ODI series against Ireland in January.

David Hussey, head coach of Stars said Zahir’s presence would be very helpful for the side going into the season.

“We’re looking forward to having Zahir on board for this season,” Hussey said.

“His left arm wristspin will give us a variety of options. Together with Adam Zampa, Tom O’Connell, Clint Hinchliffe and the support of our skipper Glenn Maxwell, we’re pleased with the group of spinners we’ll have available over the course of the season,” he added.

Big Bash League will start from December 10 and Melbourne Stars will start their campaign against Brisbane Heat at Manuka Oval on December 11.
