Melbourne Renegades on Wednesday signed the veteran Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi for the 10th edition of the BBL.

Nabi also became the first overseas player to have signed with the franchise and also continued his association with the side. He has been the part of the franchise from the last three seasons and contributed with both bat and the ball significantly.

He has scored 476 runs in 27 matches at a strike rate of 130.76 and also taken 21 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 7.17.

Renegades have been looking to make a fruitful signing from the last few days, especially after Dan Christian left for the Sydney Sixers.

Last week, the Renegades had signed the pacer James Pattinson from the Brisbane Heat, followed by the signing of Nabi today.

“Nabi’s versatility makes him a very valuable member of our team. He can bat and bowl in a number of different situations and he reads the game so well,” Renegades coach Michael Klinger said.

Nabi had a terrific campaign with the St Lucia Zouks in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League, and also took a five-wicket haul against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

He also played some crucial knocks for the side in the middle order, and proved to be a vital cog for them with both bat and ball.

“We’ll again be looking for Nabi to play a key role in our middle order and he’ll be called upon to bowl some important overs.” Klinger added.

Melbourne Renegades squad:

Cameron Boyce, Zak Evans, Aaron Finch (capt), Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper, Marcus Harris, Mackenzie Harvey, Jon Holland, Shaun Marsh, Mohammad Nabi, James Pattinson, Kane Richardson, Will Sutherland, Beau Webster.
