Sydney Sixers on Friday announced signing former Australian pacer Gurinder Sandhu for season 10 of Big Bash League. Sandhu will now join the Sixers as the replacement of Mitchell Starc who is obligated towards playing for the national team.

The 27-year-old played two One Day Internationals for Australia in 2015, also played a total of 50 T20 matches in his career. Besides, he was associated with the Sydney Thunder as a teenager and also one of their leading wicket-takers till date.

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity from the Sydney Sixers that has been provided to me and I’m just going to do the best I can here,” Sandhu said in an official statement.

“I’ll train with the guys and try and learn what I can. I am only 27 so I still have plenty of learning to do,” he added.

Sandhu joined Brisbane last season after leaving Thunder with the motive of revitalizing his career in the shortest format. His signing comes as all the BBL teams scout for the replacements of the players currently committed to national duty.

Sixers also signed Tom Rogers and Lawrence Neil-Smith as the replacements for Sean Abbott and Jackson Bird as the duo will represent Australia A. Australian players engaged in the India series will be available after January 19 after the Test series.
