Sydney Sixers signed the premier Australian pacer for the upcoming 10th edition of the Big Bash League on Monday. The pacer will also mark his return to tournament after a span of over six years after coming into deal with the side.

Although the Australian team will be engaged in a series with the Indian team during most of the part of the BBL, Starc could still make a part of the Sixers for the final stages.

Meanwhile, Melbourne Stars signed England’s wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow ahead of the tournament on season start.

He also became the 10th England player to come under contract with a BBL team this year. Although he is yet to make his debut in the BBL, he will spend a small chunk of his time during England’s white-ball series against South Africa.

Starc credited Josh Hazlewood that made him make comeback to the league this season as he said: “I’ve been watching from afar, the Big Bash, so it’s nice to be back involved this year and seeing the guys run around it’s a great product,”

“It’s a great time of the year for cricket in Australia and the Big Bash just shows that level of cricket and I guess that excitement that everyone wants to watch” he added.

The 30-year-old has so far played 10 matches in the BBL and taken 20 wickets at an economy rate of 7.92.

Sydney Sixers squad:

Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird, Dan Christian, Tom Curran, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mickey Edwards, Moises Henriques (c), Daniel Hughes, Hayden Kerr, Nathan Lyon, Ben Manenti, Stephen O’Keefe, Josh Philippe, Lloyd Pope, Jordan Silk, Mitchell Starc, James Vince
