BBL 12: Senior Australian spinner Steve O’Keefe has once again signed a contract with Sydney Sixers to play for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League. The veteran spinner will turn 38 prior to the beginning of the season in December 2022.
Keefe will continue to play under his long-time mentors Greg Shipperd and skipper Moises Henriques. Keefe has already retired from international and first-class cricket and has always had a soft corner to play at the Big Bash League.
Speaking to the media, Steve mentioned that the only reason to continue playing with the Sixers is due to his long-time association with Shipperd and Henriques.
Steve O’Keefe had a relentless BBL 2021-22 season where he had to compromise many fixtures due to his calf injuries. However, he defeated all the odds and picked up 15 wickets in 11 matches with a mind-blowing economy of 6.57.
O’Keefe also registered a couple of four-wicket hauls in his epic season for the Sixers. He then continued to play for Sydney’s first-grade tournament for the Manly-Warringah club.
Steve O’Keefe is keen on preparing hard and being an eminent member of the Sydney Sixers through his performance. He was seen in the nets before the Australian ODI team was leaving for Sri Lanka. He guided the newbie leg-spinner Michael Kunhemann and trained him personally.
Skipper Moises Henriques in his statement said, “Steve is a valuable addition to the team. He doesn’t let the opposition stand and settle in the middle overs. His inclusion in the squad is a boom and we will keenly work with his fitness.”
