Big Bash League team Hobart Hurricanes on Monday signed a contract with the no. 1 T20I batsman Dawid Malan ahead of the 10th edition of the tournament.
The 10th edition of the Big Bash League is slated to begin from December 3 and all the teams are yet to release the final list of their squads.
Malan became the fifth England player to pen a deal with the Big Bash League franchise, following his remarkable show in the home season.
He has so far played 16 T20I matches and scored 682 runs at a strike rate of 146.66 and average 48.71. Besides, he also has four centuries on his name in his T20 career with a top score of 103 runs.
The left-handed batsman is expected to provide strength to the top order of the Hurricanes in the absence of Matthew Wade. Wade won’t be able to play for the Hurricanes because of his commitment with the national team in the Test series against India.
Apart from Malan, Hurricanes also has an explosive batting lineup consisting of D’Arcy Short, Peter Handscomb, Ben McDermott and Mac Wright.
The 33-year-old expressed his excitement of playing for the franchise in the forthcoming edition and also his first appearance in the BBL.
“It’ll be a great learning opportunity for me to go out there, especially with the Twenty20 World Cup [in Australia] in two years’ time,” Malan said.
