Alex Carey emerged as the knight in shining armour for the Adelaide Strikers as the team thrashed the Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. Carey hit a swashbuckling 101 runs off 62 balls, smashing ten fours and three sixes. Carey’s century led the team to a brilliant 82 run win.

The impressive ton has made Carey the first player to score a century in BBL 2020-21. Carey has now become only the sixth player to hit a century in the history of BBL tournament.

“It was an important innings, we knew that tonight and the next two games are really important. It’s a really tight tournament so it’s really pleasing to help the team get that victory that we were craving,” Carey said after his successful match.

Coming out to bat first, Strikers stitched a target of 197 runs, their highest total of the season, at the loss of five wickets. The Heat couldn’t score beyond 115 runs and got bundled up in the eighteenth over.

The victory over Heat has helped Strikers jump from the seventh spot to make it into the top four of the BBL 2020-21 points-table. Heat nows rests at the seventh position. Only two games are remaining before the finals kick-off.

In another news, Carey got released from the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals in the mini-auction before the final auction of the IPL 2021.
