Sydney Thunder produced a clinical performance with both bat and ball to beat Brisbane Heat in their first game of the BBL 2021-22 season on Monday. Brisbane Heat, on the other hand, shouldn’t be proud of their effort and would be looking to make a comeback in the next game. Their openers, Chris Lynn and Max Bryant both got out cheaply as Brisbane got off to the worst possible start in the first innings. Brisbane managed 16 runs in 3.1 overs for the loss of two wickets.

However, Duckett (46 off 35) and Heazlett (42 off 37) then joined hands and led a great recovery. The duo added 83 runs for the third wicket. After 14 years, Brisbane managed to score 99 runs. It was time to get the late flourish to take the team to a competitive score. However, they, rather, lost wickets in quick succession as they only managed to score 130 runs in the end. Brisbane lost 6 wickets for 31 runs in 5 overs.

Daniel Sams and Gurinder Sandhu was exceptional with the ball for Sydney Thunder. Sams picked 3 wickets for just 22 runs in 4 overs, while Sandhu took 17 in his four.

Sydney Thunder too didn’t make a great start to the chase as they had lost Alex Hales on the second ball of the second innings. His partner Sam Whiteman also departed on the first ball of the fourth over to leave Thunder reeling at 28 for 2. Mathew Gikes looked good for his 20 off 10 balls but, unfortunately, he couldn’t convert the start into a big score. In 3.3 overs, Sydney Thunder had lost 3 wickets for 33 runs.

However, what followed was a match-winning partnership between Sam Billings and Alex Ross. The duo timed their innings to perfection. Alex Ross was the aggressor between the two. He scored 61 off 46 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Billing, on the other hand, took his time to settle down before playing some outstanding shots. He too remained unbeaten on 45 off 36 balls. Thanks to that partnership, Sydney Thunder chased down the score in just 17.1 overs with 7 wickets in hand.

BBL 2021-22 Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat Brief Scores: Sydney Thunder 3 for 141 (Ross 61*, Billings 45*) beat Brisbane Heat 8 for 140 (Duckett 46, Heazlett 42, Sams 3-22) by seven wickets
