In an exceedingly strange encounter that took place during the Big Bash League 2022-23 game, the Sydney Thunder were bowled out on only 15 runs. Sydney Thunder also made an embarrassing record of having the lowest-ever score in the history total of the T20 format. In the pursuit to win the game, the home team had to chase down 140 runs. However, their batting performance was terrible, and their no. 10 batter, Brendan Doggett, had the highest individual score with 4 runs. Both the openers, Alex Hales and Matthew Gilkes, were out without scoring, and the team was five wickets down with only 9 runs on the board.
Wes Agar took four wickets and gave up six runs, while Henry Thornton had unbelievable figures of 5/3. Sydney Thunder lost by 124 runs after being bowled out for 15 in 5.5 overs.
Lowest Total in T20 Cricket:
- 15 runs – Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers
- 21 runs – Turkey vs Czech Republic
- 26 runs – Lesotho vs Uganda
- 28 runs – Turkey vs Luxembourg
This is also the lowest team total in the Big Bash League, which is justifiable; the unwelcome record. Melbourne Renegades (57 runs) previously held the record for the lowest total in BBL history.
After electing to bat first, the Adelaide Strikers had racked up 139 runs in 20 overs, with Chris Lynn leading the way with a score of 36 runs off of 27 deliveries. The Sydney Thunder were in a positive mood going into the break after their bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi recorded impressive figures of 3/20. However, it was an utterly surprising show with the bat for the Thunders, who were unable to even survive the powerplay before being bowled out on 15.
Gilkes was out on the third ball of the innings, followed by Rilee Rossouw (3), Jason Sangha (0), and Alex Hales (0).
Thunder lost six wickets till the fourth over, and the next over brought them to 10/8. Doggett hit the Thunder’s lone four before getting out.
