Australian Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Thunder have terminated the contract of Afghanistan cricketer Fazalhaq Farooqi. Thunder had signed the services of Farooqi at the recently concluded player draft and auctions.
According to the sources, Sydney Thunder has terminated Fazalhaq Farooqi’s contract on grounds of inappropriate behaviour. The team management had received several complaints against Farooqi after which they took an extreme decision.
Sydney Thunder also stated that Farooqi underwent an independent investigation with Cricket Australia’s Integrity Unit on Thursday. After thorough deliberations with the apex body and the hearing by a CA Conduct Commissioner, Sydney Thunders finalized terminating Farooqi’s contract.
Addressing the media, New South Wales Cricket Chief Executive Lee Germon stated that Fazalhaq Farooqi displayed derogatory behaviour that was outside the values of the club. Germon further added by saying that the board is also aiming to provide all the necessary support to those who are affected by the incident.
Though both Cricket Australia and Sydney Thunder have not revealed the exact reason for terminating Farooqi’s contract, it is likely that some internal conflicts have resulted in this decision. Thunders will be severely impacted by this and it will also be a personal loss for Farooqi on missing an integral opportunity.
