The Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) has appointed a newly formed Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) that will be effective from December 1. The three-member committee comprises veteran administrators Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik.

The CAC has already been assigned its first task to assign a new national selection committee. CAC will shortlist the candidates for the post of national selectors and will conduct interviews to form a fresh committee. The previous selection committee under Chetan Sharma was sacked after India’s debacle at the 2022 T20 World in Australia. CAC has to likely complete the task before 15th December.

Ashok Malhotra will likely lead the CAC. Malhotra has varied administration experience as he has previously served as the President of the Indian Cricketers Association.

Jatin Paranjape is also a veteran administrator as he was a part of the senior men’s selection committee. He has also represented the Indian national team in four One-Day International matches.

Sulakshana Naik is an experienced women’s cricketer and has a diversified career in India. She has represented India in 46 ODIs, 31 T20Is, and two Test matches.

Responsibilities of the CAC

The three-member CAC will execute some vital tasks as soon as they accept the responsibility. Some of the most crucial ones are:

  • Appointment of the selection committee
  • Current Management Staff Review
  • T20 World Cup Debacle Review
  • Split Captaincy (Rohit Sharma for Test, ODI’s and Hardik Pandya for T20I’s)
  • Split Coaching (Specialized staff for T20I’s)

Meanwhile, the appointment of the selection committee will be a tedious task for the CAC. BCCI has received more than 60 applications with talented administrators Ajay Ratra, Maninder Singh, Nayan Mongia and Shivsundar Das in the fray. Interestingly, Chetan Sharma has also re-applied for the post and it will be interesting to find out the decision of CAC.
