As per reports, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season auction is likely to be held in mid-December. According to a report by Cricbuzz, BCCI is likely to conduct it on 16th December 2022.
Lately, informal talks with the BCCI and the franchises have been going on regarding the tentative schedule of IPL 2023. A mini-auction will be taking place this year, however, the venue is yet to be decided.
The tournament is likely to begin in the fourth week of March and will continue to persist with the home and away format.
As far as the salary purse is concerned, it will be around 95 crores this time around. Each team will be having reserves of at least 5 crores to begin with. Although, the purse might increase if the franchise decides to release some of its players and trade them with other franchises.
As per reports, CSK all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja is likely to be traded with some other franchise as the relations between the two has soured. Recent reports even suggested a trade between CSK and Gujarat Titans for Jadeja and Shubman Gill. However, both franchises have refuted any such trade-off.
Although, a couple of other franchises including the Delhi Capitals have requested to trade Jadeja. But the CSK management continues to deny all the allegations of a fall-out with Jadeja. The franchise is likely to persist with him in the coming seasons as well.
IPL 2023 to follow the usual home and away format
Meanwhile, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has requested the state associations to resume the IPL in the normal home and away format from next season onwards.
“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” the BCCI president said in a letter to the state units.
On the prospect of conducting the women’s IPL, he said:
“The BCCI is currently working on the much-awaited Women’s IPL. We are expecting to start the first season early next year. More details on this will follow in due course.”
