The Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) along with the decision-making selection committee will jointly consult and ascertain the fate of veteran batsman Virat Kohli’s T-20 International career based on his performance in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Kohli has been under the radar for a long time due to his decent strike rate in the shorter format of the game.
After the meeting of the BCCI and the selection committee, Kohli will be informed of the call and might have to take a call to quit T-20I cricket. Though the iconic player has ample time and opportunities to prove himself, the news comes amidst India’s under-utilization of batting resources in the T-20I format.
Kohli will likely be inducted into India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T-20 World Cup in Australia. India will opt for a jinx in their squad by pitching in a combination of both experienced and evolving cricketers. Rohit Sharma will lead the side for the Mission Melbourne.
Though Kohli has been consistent in scoring runs for his side, his continuous knocks of 30-40s are coming with a below-par strike rate of 100-110. In India’s gripping Asia Cup fight against arch-rivals Pakistan last night, Kohli kept the scoreboard ticking but managed to score 35 runs at a strike rate of 102.5.
Kohli has been India’s leading performer in the T-20I format. Dropping him will not be an easy task for the management. He has always portrayed himself as a cunning and fierce batsman at IPL and helped India win a majority of crucial fixtures.
Apart from all the odds, Kohli looked in fine touch last night with some exquisite knocks in his pocket. His presence makes a unique difference in the Indian camp and the veteran batsman will continue to enjoy his established prominence till his retirement.
The time will only decide the fate of India’s sensational batting legend Virat Kohli.
