The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled its 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) for December 24. The key features of discussions of the meeting are the addition of new teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament and the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

BCCI has hinted that they might introduce two new teams in the cash-rich league, making it a ten team contest from 2021. Talks over the addition of new teams in the tournament had started doing the rounds since the time curtains fell over the 13th edition of the tournament in UAE.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah had shown interest in the matter during the finals of the IPL. The board is yet to conduct a formal meeting with the IPL Governing Council on the matter.

BCCI informed all the state associations regarding the AGM but have not announced the venue of the meeting yet.

“Notice is hereby given that the 89th Annual General Meeting (herein referred to as “AGM”) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (“BCCI”), which will be held on December 24, 2020, at 1200hrs IST to transact the business as per agenda annexed herewith,” the BCCI secretary wrote. The note stated 23 points of agenda, two of which read “Approval on inclusion of 2 (two) new teams to the Indian Premier League”, and “Discussion of BCCI’s stand on inclusion of cricket in Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028”.

The appointment of the vice-president of the board will also be a key point of discussion during the AGM.
