Sydney Sixers registered their ninth win of the BBL 2021-22 season on Wednesday, January 19, after beating Brisbane Heat by 27 wickets. With that win, they finish at the number two position as the league stage comes to a close. Sydney Sixers batted first and scored a formidable 178-run total on the board.
Daniel Hughes starred with the bat as he scored 59 runs off 45 deliveries, including 7 fours. Christian, once again, made a useful contribution of 32 runs in 24 deliveries, while Henriques scored 28 off 18.
For Brisbane Heat, Neser was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 3 for 39 in 4 overs. Brisbane Heat, in reply, could only manage to score 151 runs in the second innings. Max Bryant played a solid knock of 56 runs in 55 balls. However, he was guilty of not playing aggressively. Having said that, he didn’t get any support from the other end either.
The likes of Marnus Labuschagne (3), Ben Duckett (3) and Sam Heazlett (1) got out on single-digit scores. Jimmy Peirson played scored a good-looking 42 off 23 balls but only to delay the inevitable.
Brisbane Heat eventually fell short of 27 runs. For Sydney Sixers, Hayden Kerr starred with the ball as he picked 3 for 23 runs in 4 overs. Ben Dwarshuis picked 2 for 35 in his four-over spell.
It has been a forgettable season for Brisbane Heat as they only managed to secure 3 wins in 14 matches. They finished the season at second from the bottom of the points table. Sydney Sixers, on the other hand, are through to the qualifiers.
