Sydney Thunder takes on Hobart Hurricanes in the 47th match of the BBL 2021-22 on Thursday at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. Sydney Thunder has been playing ruthless cricket at the moment and is currently sitting at number two on the points table. In 11 matches, they have managed to win 8 games and are coming into the game on the back of six consecutive wins.
Hobart Hurricanes, on the other hand, have 5 wins in 11 matches and thus, are sitting at number four on the points table. They have won and lost one match each in their last two games. Both the teams played their last game against each other. Hobart Hurricanes batted first and managed to score only 139 runs in the first innings. McAndrew sent Caleb Jewell (4 off 8) back to the hut in the third over of the innings.
Ben McDermott and Handcomb then steadied the innings but couldn’t score at a great run rate. McAndrew got the dangerous McDermott (38 off 34) back to the hut in the 10 over, while Harry Brooks followed him on the first ball of the 12th over. There were little cameos from a couple of batsmen thereafter but Hobart Hurricanes never got the momentum that there were looking for. In the end, they ended up scoring a below-par score.
For the Thunder, both Gurinder Sandhu and McAndrew picked two wickets each. Daniel Sams and T Sangha also picked a wicket each. Sydney Thunder chased down the score in just 17.2 overs with nine wickets in hand. Alex Hales took the bowling unit apart with boundaries scored in all parts of the ground. He scored 80 runs off just 56 deliveries, a knock which was laced with 11 fours and 1 six. Jason Sangha amassed 35 off 31 balls with the bat. Given how Sydney Thunder are playing at the moment, it’s unlikely that they would lose their next game against Hobart Hurricanes.
