Brisbane Heat on Friday confirmed of signing England cricketer Dan Lawrence as an international signing for BBL 10. The Essex batsman will now his countryman Tom Banton on the side for the Big Bash League set to begin December 10.

Tom Banton and Lewis Gregory will miss out on the initial stages of the tournament due to the white-ball series against South Africa. Since Dan Lawrence has not been named for the following tour, he will directly fly to Australia for the tournament.

The 23-year-old had made his First-class debut for Essex and went on to score his maiden century at the age of 17. He smashed 161 runs for Essex in just his second game for the side, thereby making his contention to play across all formats.

“Dan is a really exciting pick-up for us and has a good reputation as a young player who can influence results with his skills and experience,” Heat coach Darren Lehmann said.

“He caught the eye during the Lions tour with the way he adapted so successfully to local conditions and that is something we think will help at the start of the tournament when we are playing in Canberra and at the Gabba and Metricon Stadium,” Lehmann added.

Lawrence was a part of Essex during 2019 T20 Blast and earned the title of ‘local icons’ by London Spirit for inaugural Hundred drafts.

“The BBL is a bit of a staple diet for us at home during our winter and it will be enormous to be a part of the League out there this summer,” said Lawrence.

“The Lions tour was a rewarding one for a lot of the squad and we certainly enjoyed the competitive cricket we got. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone at the Heat and working with the lads to get the team off to a good start,” he added.
