After being invited to reapply for his position by the higher-ups at the BCCI, former India bowler Chetan Sharma is likely to be allowed to continue working as the Chief National Selector.

There were 12 people who applied to be national cricket selectors. Twelve of them were called in for interviews, and it looks like Chetan Sharma is likely to stay on as the head of the selection committee. Sharma was named chairman in December 2020, when he took over for Sunil Joshi.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has changed its mind about blaming the selectors for India’s loss at the T20 World Cup and getting rid of the whole group. Sharma was asked to reapply, and since he has played in 23 Test matches, he could keep the top spot. Harvinder Singh is also in the running to keep his position in the Central Zone.

Major names who applied for the role

Shiv Sundar Das, a former Test opener who played in the East Zone, and Sridharan Sharath, a domestic batting star from Tamil Nadu who played in the South Zone, are also likely to be put on the panel. Sharath is in charge of the national selection panel for juniors right now. Salil Ankola and Connor Williams were asked to come in for interviews for the fifth selector’s job from the West Zone.

Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik made up the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). On Monday, they met with former India wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra and batter Amay Khurasiya, among other people. They will tell the board what they think should be done.

Venkatesh Prasad, a former India fast bowler and bowling coach, was one of the applicants with a higher profile, but he wasn’t chosen for the interview.

From the last panel, we know that Debashish Mohanty’s term is about to end and that Joshi won’t be back. Since Abey Kuruvilla was shifted to BCCI’s general manager, the West Zone selector job has been empty.
