Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) may incorporate New Zealand’s Craig McMillan as their Test batting mentor in case Neil McKenzie chooses to be out of the approaching Sri Lanka visit.

In 2019, McKenzie was Bangladesh’s Test batting mentor throughout their series against India, appears very doubtful to tour Sri Lanka, bearing in mind the statistic that Bangladesh are anticipated to travel nearly one month in advance of the series in order to become accustomed to the conditions and begin their preparations.

Akram Khan, who is the board’s cricket operations chairman, established that they have come up to McMillan to take over the character on a “short-term basis”. He further added that they are trying to persuade McKenzie to visit Sri Lanka. Bangladesh is likely to play three Tests in Sri Lanka, with the series set to commence from 24th October.

“His [McKenzie] chances of going to Sri Lanka are 50-50,” Akram told Cricbuzz.

“We are trying to convince him [McKenzie] as we want him, but he does not seem to be keen, and if that is the case, we will have to find someone as a replacement, but he will be appointed on a short-term basis. We are talking with a few other candidates and McMillan is one of them, but nothing is finalized at the moment… we are hoping to sort out the matter soon,” he added.

McMillan resigned as the batting coach of New Zealand after the 2019 World Cup. It was under his tenure that New Zealand reached the finals of the 2015 and 2019 World Cup.
