Cricket Australia (CA) on Thursday said it is confident about the successful sixth edition of the WBBL despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament will entirely take place in Sydney in order to avoid the travelling due to pandemic.

The tournament is set to begin from October 25 and take place till the end of November at the multiple venues in Sydney. It will also allow the crowd to witness the live matches at varying levels in the grounds with some restrictions.

“One of the focus areas for building the competition has been the village which is a really self-contained facility to create a safe environment where we can scale up and down the level security and overlay that’s required,” Alistair Dobson, the head of the Big Bash, said.

Up to 23 foreign players will participate in the tournament coming from England, West Indies and South Africa. They will undergo quarantine for two weeks before joining their respective team camps in Sydney.

While some players who are already from Sydney will also have to undergo quarantine in the Sydney village.

“We have a really scalable model which will allow us to pull different levers if the situation changes. We haven’t talked specific [Covid] numbers but it’s something we monitor and talk about daily,” he added.
