Delhi Capitals stunned Sunrisers Hyderabad by 21 runs in the last pool stage fixture at the Tata Indian Premier League 2022. With a win against the Orange Army, Delhi Capitals have climbed to the fifth position with 10 points in their account. Both the franchises now stand with the same number of points in their tally.
Winning the toss and electing to field first, Sunrisers Hyderabad were thumped to a massive target of 208. The Capitals rode on to a fabulous performance from David Warner who scored an unbeaten 92 and Rovman Powell who too hit a sizzling half-century. For Hyderabad, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Sean Abbott, and Shreyas Gopal chipped in a wicket apiece.
Chasing a mammoth total of 208, Sunrisers Hyderabad fell short of 21 runs owing to a brilliant bowling performance by the Delhi bowlers. Apart from Nicolas Pooran (62) and Aiden Markram (42), no batsman was able to make a mark. For Delhi Capitals, Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers who scalped three wickets whereas Shardul Thakur claimed a couple of them.
Pacer Khaleel Ahmed achieved a glittery milestone as he reached 100 wickets in his T-20 career. The left-arm bowler has contributed amazingly to the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals franchises at the IPL. His figures of 3/30 helped Delhi Capitals to register a crucial victory last night to sail in the standings.
Delhi Capitals now stand high chances of qualification. They have to win at least three of their upcoming four contests at the tournament. The Capitals are set to take on Chennai Super Kings in their upcoming fixture on Sunday at the D.Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
