IPL 2022: Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh who plays for the Delhi Capitals, has tested positive for COVID-19 in his second RT-PCR test. Marsh’s initial RT-PCR test had been negative, despite a positive Rapid Antigen Test result (RAT). We also learned that three members of the squad have tested positive.
Other players and staff members’ results are presently being anticipated. The Delhi Capitals are set to play Punjab Kings in Pune on Wednesday, but their travel plans have been put on hold for the time being. The outcome of the match is yet to be determined.
DC’s physio Patrick Farhart had also tested positive for Covid on Friday last week.
DC said in a statement, “Mitchell Marsh, an all-rounder for the Delhi Capitals, has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been hospitalized at a hospital. Marsh’s condition is being constantly monitored by the Delhi Capitals medical staff.”
The statement added “A few more members from the Delhi Capitals bio-bubble, including support staff members, have returned positive tests as well. Though they are all asymptomatic, their condition is being monitored closely by the franchise.”
Covid protocol for IPL 2022:
After Marsh’s positive quick antigen test result, they were recommended to stay in their hotel rooms and undergo precautionary quarantine. Other squad members’ RT-PCR results were negative till Monday evening. Once a positive case is recorded in a team, every individual in the bio-bubble is tested for five days, according to competition rules. Anyone who tests positive must spend at least seven days in isolation and must have two consecutive negative RT-PCR readings before rejoining the side.
BCCI officials are hopeful the infections in the DC camp would soon be contained and not spread to other teams as in the last season, the tournament had to be suspended midway due to the second wave before it could be completed in the UAE in September-October.
