The incumbent skipper of the Lucknow Super Giants, KL Rahul has become the first batsman in the history of the Indian Premier League to score three centuries against the same opponent. Rahul achieved the milestone after smashing an unbeaten knock of 103 runs against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium last night.
Rahul’s extraordinary innings helped his team to register another crucial victory as Lucknow bounces back into the top four. His century helped Lucknow register a competitive total of 167 as his team won by 37 runs. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians suffered their record eighth consecutive defeat at the IPL.
Earlier in the season, Rahul had smashed his first century of the season against the same opponent, Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium. His knock of 103 runs consisting of five sixes helped Lucknow to post a total of 199 where they won by 18 runs. In the 2019 season of IPL, Rahul registered his maiden IPL century against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
With this record, KL Rahul also equals the record of Rohit Sharma for scoring the most T-20 centuries by an Indian batsman.
After the winning moments at Wankhede, Super Giants coach Andy Bichel praised Rahul and called his form sublime. Speaking to the media personnel, Bichel stressed the fact that Rahul is in sublime form and he correctly opened the face of the bat when they bowled him wide. He also put forth that KL pulled the ball very well into the gaps and he played well with the dimensions of the ground.
As of now, Lucknow’s captaincy seems in safe hands as skipper KL Rahul is leading with an example. Lucknow will face Punjab Kings in their next fixture on Friday at Pune.
