IPL 2022: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has been reprimanded for breaching the Indian Premier League’s Code of Conduct. The code of conduct falls under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This happened during RCB’s Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants on May 25 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The offences are segregated into various levels on the basis of behaviour and seriousness of the act. Article 2.3 of the Level 1 suggests the use of an audible obscenity during a match. This includes the player’s use of offensive terms in any language that is audible to the audience and spectators, whether through the stump mics or otherwise.
“Mr. Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL said in a statement.
Out of exasperation, Karthik uttered foul language while batting in the first innings of the match against LSG. Rajat Patidar and Dinesh Karthik put on fantastic innings during the death overs. Karthik turned to his right in an attempt to hit a wide ball for some runs, but he failed and swung his bat in the air, missing the shot. Out of frustration, he yelled some obscene comments, which were recorded by the stump mic.
In terms of the match, RCB defeated LSG by 14 runs in the Eliminator to keep their IPL finals hopes alive. The duo of Rajat Patidar and Karthik helped RCB set a 208-run mark for LSG to chase.
After winning the game, RCB advanced to Qualifier 2 to face the inaugural winners Rajasthan Royals. Both squads are just one win away from meeting the Gujarat Titans in the finals. The Qualifier 2 will be played today, May 27, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, in the league’s penultimate match.
