IPL 2022: MS Dhoni’s suggestions were acknowledged by Chennai Super Kings’ newest hitting prodigy Shivam Dube on Tuesday for having a steady run in IPL 2022. After hitting a brilliant 95 not out in CSK’s first win of the season, against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Mumbai on April 12, Dube shared the former captain’s words of instruction.
Dube, who debuted in the IPL in 2019, has shown his big-hitting ability in the past, but he has battled to maintain consistency. The 28-year-old all-rounder, though, has turned a fresh page after signing a INR 4 crore deal with CSK.
Dube failed in CSK’s last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad after smashing a 36-ball 49 against Lucknow Super Giants and a 30-ball 57 against Punjab Kings.
The Mumbai batter, on the other hand, went on a six-hitting binge, smashing 95 off 46 balls in a record partnership with Robin Uthappa as CSK scored 216 against RCB. With 17 sixes between them, Dube and Uthappa helped CSK score 156 runs in the last 10 overs.
“I spoke to many seniors – Mahi bhai also helped me to improve the game. He said, ‘Just be focused, just be still, just let the skill work in the game.’ I wanted to time the ball really well. I tried to maintain my balance,” Dube said.
“We were looking for the first win and I am really happy that I contributed for the team. It’s an honour for me. I am more focused this time and focusing on basics,” Dube added.
Dube needed six runs from the penultimate ball of the CSK innings to get his century, and he was joined at the non-end striker’s by former CSK captain MS Dhoni. The power-hitter, though, came 5 runs short of a well-deserved maiden IPL century.
