In reply, Punjab Kings were restricted to just 133 runs in the second innings. Mayank Agarwal made a solid start with the bat as he scored 25 runs in 17 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes. However, he handed a well-timed shot straight to KL Rahul at mid-on to end his stay. Shikhar Dhawan struggled to hit the straps as he could only score 5 runs. Jonny Bairstow (32 off 28) and Liam Livingstone (18 off 16) made vital contributions with the bat but neither of them could play right till the end.
Punjab kept losing wickets at regular intervals and couldn’t stitch a big partnership. In the end, they fell 20 runs short of the target. This was Punjab’s fifth defeat in the Indian Premier League 2022. They are now languishing at the 7th spot on the points table.
