Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals: The 9th match of the IPL 2022 sees Mumbai Indians take on Rajasthan Royals at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. The most successful team in the history of the competition, Mumbai Indians, once again, have made a poor start to their campaign.
They lost their first game against Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave the team a solid start in the first innings. The duo added 67 runs for the opening wicket before the MI skipper got out on 41 off 32 balls.
Ishan Kishan, however, kept scoring boundaries right, left, and center. He, however, received little support from the other end. Ishan Kishan’s sensational knock of 81 runs in 48 balls, eventually, took the team to 177 runs in the first innings.
Despite posting a competitive score on the board, MI couldn’t defend it. Delhi Capitals chased down the score in 18.2 overs. MI’s leader of the bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah had a forgettable day with the ball, while Daniel Sams too went for plenty of runs. Murugan Ashwin (2 for 14) was the only bowler who looked threatening with the ball.
Nevertheless, MI is unlikely to make any changes in the bowling department in the next game. Suryakumar Yadav’s return to the side, however, will be a big boost for them. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have made an outstanding start to their campaign. A collective batting effort helped them notch a huge score of 210 runs in the first innings.
Sanju Samson starred with the ball as he smashed 55 runs in 27 balls. RR, later, restricted SRH to just 149 runs, thereby winning the match by 61 runs. Both Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna picked two wickets each. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed three for 22 in four overs. Given how they performed in the last game, it’s unlikely that RR will make any change in the playing XI.
