Karachi Kings take on Multan Sultans in the first match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 7 on Thursday at Karachi Stadium. Karachi Kings blew hot and cold last season and managed to reach the playoffs.
They, however, lost to Peshawar Zalmi in the eliminator clash. Ahead of a new season, Karachi Kings would look to start on a positive note. Babar Azam has been made the new captain of the team, replacing Imad Wasim.
Karachi have a solid batting unit. The top three comprises Sharjeel Khan, Babar Azam, and Joe Clarke. In the middle-order, they have got the likes of M Nabi, Sharjeel Khan, and Lewis Gregory.
Their bowling, however, is a bit of a concern. For them to have a great season, Mohammad Amir ought to make outstanding returns with the ball. Chris Joran is a notable acquisition they have made this year. He is known for his death over bowling and could rectify Karachi Kings’ death over issues.
Multan Sultans, on the other hand, won the title last season. They didn’t fare too well in the first half of the competition but then made a dramatic turnaround in the second leg. Multan Sultans opted to retain seven players such as Mohammad Rizwan, Rilee Rossouw, Sohaib Maqsood, Imran Tahir, Shan Masood, Khushdil Shah, and Shahnawaz Dahani.
The likes of M Rizwan, S Maqsood, and Shan Masood make a strong top-order. The middle-order too looks solid, having got the likes of Tim David, R Rossouw and Khushdil Shah. The variety in the bowling attack should make them a team to beat this year.
Shahnawaz Dahani was the breakthrough star last year. He picked the most wicket in the tournament last year. He will be supported by the likes of Dawid Willey and Blessing Muzarabani. In Imran Tahir, they have an experienced spinner who can help the team reach far in the tournament.
