Melbourne Renegades on Monday re-signed Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for the WBBL 08 season, the club announced on Monday (July 4).
Kaur, India’s captain, was Renegades’ best run-getter (406 runs) and wicket-taker (15 wickets) in WBBL 07, earning her the title of Player of the Tournament. Kaur, by the way, hit up to 18 sixes during the competition.
Her 46-ball unbroken 73 against Adelaide Strikers in Perth, which enabled her side to chase down a target of 161, was one of the highlights of her spectacular tournament. Renegades’ solid performances also aided their advancement to the next stages of the tournament, where they were defeated by Adelaide Strikers in the ‘Challenger.’
Although Melbourne Renegades didn’t get the result they wanted but surely they still managed to retain star players.. Also, Harmanpreet experience as a captain and a player will help the young talent in their team.
“I’m excited to be coming back to the Renegades,” Kaur said.
“I really enjoyed being part of the team environment last season and feel like that helped me produce some of my best cricket. Personally, I just wanted to play my role for the team and it was pleasing to be able to do that.
“We supported each other as a team last year and were able to get some good results, but we still have plenty of room to improve. Hopefully, we can do that, make the finals again and put ourselves in a position to compete for the title,” she added.
