West Indies has named their squads for series against Netherlands and Pakistan. There has been some missing names and also some new faces in the squad.
West Indies’ ODI squad to tour the Netherlands and Pakistan:
Nicholas Pooran (c), Shai Hope (vice-captain), Nkrumah Bonner, Shamarh Brooks, Kacey Carty, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Shermon Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Anderson Phillip, Rovman Powell, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, Hayden Walsh Jr.
Jayden Seales, a fast bowler, has been named in the West Indies’ 15-man team for the ODI series against the Netherlands and Pakistan. Nicholas Pooran, who was recently appointed full-time white ball captain of the side following Kieron Pollard’s international retirement, will lead the team.
Seales has played seven Tests for he West Indies, but has no white ball experience. Seales, a promising and highly-rated young Trinidadian fast, has already taken 27 wickets in his brief Test career.
Shermon Lewis, a fast bowler, was also chosen in the team, and untested hitter Keacy Carty was given his first international call-up. Carty is the first player from Sint Maarten to be called up to the national team.
Carty was singled out by lead selector Desmond Haynes as a promising batter.
Shimron Hetmyer, a middle-order batsman, will miss the series against the Netherlands and Pakistan due to parental leave. Hetmyer, who will play for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022, left the team bubble early on Sunday (May 8) to give birth to his child.
Starting May 31, the team will play a three-match series at Amstelveen. Following the tour of the Netherlands, the team will head to Rawalpindi, Pakistan, for a three-match ODI series commencing June 8.
The series in Pakistan was originally slated for December 2021, but the tour was postponed due to an epidemic of COVID-19 cases in the visitors’ camp following the T20 series.
