ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Schedule: The International Council of Cricket in India announced the schedule for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on Friday. India will open their campaign with a blockbuster encounter against Pakistan at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Stadium on 23rd October 2022.
The two teams will be playing their first game at the iconic stadium in the history of the ICC event. India and Pakistan last took on each other in a World Cup match in Australia during the 2015 edition.
The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 begins on 16th October 2022. It will be staged across seven venues, namely Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. The final of the tournament will be staged at Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 13.
“T20 is the global growth format for cricket and the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will play a huge role in inspiring our next generation of players and fans as the world’s best players descend on Australia and showcase the very best of our sport. The release of fixtures is always a great moment in the delivery of a World Cup as fans start to get excited about opening games, head to heads, and knock-out stages,” ICC CEO Geoff Allardice said.
Defending champions Australia will take on runners-up New Zealand in the first match of the tournament. A total of 45 matches will be played between 16 teams.
Team India is placed alongside Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, winner of Group B and runner-up in Group A from the First Round.
Group A comprises of the teams, namely Australia, New Zealand, England, Afghanistan, winner of Group A, and runner-up of Group B in the first round.
