AUS vs SL 3rd ODI: Australia and Sri Lank are set to lock horns with each other in the third ODI at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. Australia started the series on a winning note after winning the first match. However, Sri Lanka fought back brilliantly to win the second ODI by 26 runs.
Batting first, Sri Lanka managed to score 220 runs in 47.4 overs. The likes of Kusal Mendis (36 off 41) and Dasun Shanaka (34 off 36) made notable contributions. However, the other players were guilty of not converting the starts into big scores.
For Australia, Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4 for 35 in 8.4 overs. Besides, the likes of M Kuhnemann and Maxwell picked two wickets each.
SL beat Australia by 26 runs
In pursuit of the score, Australia, surprisingly, was bundled out for just 189 runs. David Warner scored 37 runs in 51 balls, while Aaron Finch got out after scoring 14 runs in 15 balls.
Steve Smith, later, scored 28, while Travis Head made 23 of 34 balls. Both of them failed to convert the start into big scores. The story, continued, thereafter, as well.
Marnus Labuschagne (18 off 30) and Alex Carey (15 off 20) also couldn’t deliver with the bat. Maxwell tried to turn the fortunes around but he too got out after scoring 30 runs in 25 balls. None of the batters could go on to score big for the side and take the team home. As for Sri Lanka, C Karunaratne picked 3 wickets, while the likes of Chameera, Wellalage, and D de Silva picked two wickets each.
The series is currently leveled at 1-1 and the third ODI is expected to be a cracker of a contest.
