AUS vs SL ODI series: Australia has won the T20 series against Sri Lanka by a 2-1 margin and is all set to face them in a five-match ODI series. Australian skipper, Aaron Finch announced the playing XI of the team for the first ODI game on Monday. For the unversed, the first Test is scheduled to be played on 14th June 2022.
Ahead of the first ODI, there are some concerns for the team. Fast bowler, Kane Richardson has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. It is a big blow to the team as two of their mainstays in the form of Mitchell Marsh and Mitchell Starc are already missing out due to different injuries.
It also suggests that Pat Cummins will lead the fast bowling attack. He will share the fast bowling duties alongside the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Jhye Richardson.
It is pertinent to note that Adam Zampa is not with the squad as he is currently in Australia for the birth of his first child. Thus, Ashton Agar will be the lead spinner in the squad.
The playing XI for the first ODI will have Aaron Finch and David Warner to open the innings. Steve Smith will bat at three, followed by Marnus Labuschagne, Marcus Stoinis, and Glenn Maxwell at four, five, and six respectively. Alex Carey will don the wicket-keeping gloves, while Ashton Agar remains the only front-line spinner in the eleven.
The fast bowling unit comprises Pat Cummins, Jhye Richardson, and Josh Hazlewood. Here’s a look at the complete playing XI of the Australian Cricket Team for the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
