BAN vs SL: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the first Test against Sri Lanka after testing positive for COVID-19.
Shakib was expected to join the national team in Chattogram today after returning from the United States on Monday (May 9). Shakib, on the other hand, was returned home and placed in isolation after testing positive twice. He will be kept in isolation for the following five days as per the COVID guideline.
“Shakib tested COVID positive and will not be available for the opening Test against Sri Lanka,” Jalal Yunus, BCB’s cricket operation chairman, confirmed to Cricbuzz on Tuesday (May 10).
Shakib, who last played a Test in December 2021 against Pakistan in Mirpur, was set to return to the longer format in Bangladesh’s forthcoming home series against Sri Lanka. He was forced to miss the New Zealand Test series owing to a family issue while returning from South Africa after playing the ODIs.
The Sri Lanka Tour of Bangladesh 2022 is an international bilateral series that is part of the International Cricket Council’s Future Tour Programs (FTP) announced in 2009. Bangladesh will host the Sri Lanka Tour of Bangladesh 2022, which will begin on May 15, 2022. A practice match between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Sri Lankan squad will be held from the 10th to 11th of May, prior to the start of the Test Series.
On May 15, 2022, the first Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be held at Chittagong’s Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Bangladesh will host two Test Matches during the Sri Lanka Tour of Bangladesh 2022. The last match of the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka bilateral series in 2022 will be played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on May 23.
