The Blackcaps have thrashed Bangladesh in the first of the three-match ODI series on Saturday. New Zealand are off to a brilliant start in the series as they won the first game by 8 wickets. Trent Boult went through Bangladesh batting line up, claiming 4 wickets in the match. He sent back the Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal in the 4th over of the innings, followed by Saumya Sarkar’s wicket in the same over to leave Bangladesh in trouble at 19 for 2 in 4.4 overs.
Neesham then struck the next two important wickets of Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim, not allowing Bangladesh to develop a partnership. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals as Bangladesh in the end could only manage to score 131 in the first innings. They were bundled out in 41.5 overs.
In reply, Martin Guptill gave a firing start to the Blackcaps. Continuing from he left off in the T20 series against Australia, Guptill scored 38 runs in just 19 balls before getting out to Taskin Ahmed in the sixth over. Henry Nicholls stayed unbeaten at 49 off 53 as New Zealand evenutally reached home in just 21.2 overs.
Trent Boult won the Man of the match for his brilliant figures of 4 for 27 in 8.5 overs. He later donated 500$ cash prize to his hometown club Otumoetai Cadets. With this win, New Zealand leads the three-match ODI series 1-0. The second ODI will be played on Tuesday at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
