The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday named the India Women squad for the upcoming tour of England. The 21-member squad will head to England along with the Indian Men’s team next month i.e., on June 2.
The 17-year-old Shafali Verma gets her maiden Test and ODI call-up for the England tour next month. The series will comprise of one-off Test, followed by three ODIs and as many T20Is.
The 21-member squad also sees the inclusion of Shikha Pandey, Taniya Bhatia, Sneh Rana on the side for all the formats. Both of them were not a part of the home series against South Africa last year. Jharkhand’s uncapped wicket-keeper batter Indrani Roy also make a cut in the team.
Right-arm Fast bowler Simran Dil Bahadur, who made her debut in the South Africa series will play in the T20I series. She will also be the replacement of veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami who retired from the shortest format in 2018.
India women’s tour kicks off from June 16 with the one-off Test at Bristol, followed by the ODI and T20I series. The ODI series will take place on June 27, 30 & July 3 respectively followed by the T20I series from July 9.
Yesterday BCCI had named former Indian spinner Ramesh Pawar as the head coach of the Indian women team. He will also accompany the women’s team to England for the tour.
